auto to standard?

Is possible to swap an auto trans to a manual in a 99 2500 quad cab, short box, 4x4? Looking into auto trans upgrades... lots of $$!!

Unless you have a cheap donor truck with all of the needed parts, the built auto might come out ahead.

Take your time if you are going to do the swap and do it right, other wise your truck will loose value and not work correctly. My opinon I would build the auto.

a good built auto will cost $6000-$8000 E.G. billet components, valve body, billet TC etc.
a manual swap will cost about $3000-4000, I had priced everything, new crossmember, drive shafts, flywheel, clutch pedal/brake assembly, billet input shaft, southbend clutch, etc, and a used 5 spd. before I sold truck my truck, I wanted the manual.

You're gonna lose acceleration, even length legs and the worlds best cup holders.

For all the money you going to dump into this, you could do wonders with your auto. I've owned all, stock Auto, built Auto and 6 speed manual. I know you hate autos just like I did when I had a stock auto, but after I built my automatic I knew autos were the way to go. The only reason I bought a 6spd was for the High Outputs added fuel MPG.

Thats the tough part figuring out what you plan to do with the truck. If you hauling trailers and such the manuals do great for that. But if you plan on racing the Auto is the best place to be. Unless you can row gears fast...

i'm a big fan of the stick. if i was going to convert one, i would just but a donor truck! by the time you buy everything separate, you could buy a truck and have everything you need. i've converted a few older chevy's from auto's to 4-speeds and was well worth it.

a built auto would be nice but not as nice as jamming gears!

99 cummins, 5-speed, edge comp, speedhut guages, fass 150 system, s&b cold air intake, ces two piece manifold, 5 inch straight exhaust with a 6 inch tip, 5 inch superlift, 4:10 gears, dynatrack lock in lock outs, 35x14.50 thornbirds on 16.5x12 mickey tompson classic 2's, alpine head unit, 1600 watt amp, 2 12 inch subs
