Hey guys just wanted to say thanks for the info I got the dtc and looked them up in the sticky just incase you guys are wondering it had a p1693, p0216, and a p0500 and thanks again for the help
Definitely looks like your gramp's injector pump is shot. Depending upon when he purchased the truck it may still be under warranty under the 7/70 & 5 year 100K warranty. You might have him check with the dealer. Expect the dealer to balk but they may surprise you.
IF the dealer installs a new pump under warranty, they will try to install the intank lift pump. DO NOT let them do it. Replace the lift pump yourself first.
My local dealer replace my injector pump under warranty at 48,000 miles and 5 years after purchase. It is kinda doubtful but you never can tell. The dealer may step up for your gramps. Can't hurt to ask.
If you have to pay for a new pump install, figure $1,000 to $1,200 for an injector pump and about $400 for shop labor. Several places sell an injector pump/upgraded lift pump package that may be a good course of action. Most of these packages include a VP-44 and an Air Dog or FASS
for around $1,600.
