3" factory exhaust w/ resonator vs straight pipe?

Hey, how much louder would the exhaust be if we removed the factory resonator? Dad left the resonator on the exhaust and to tell you the truth you really can't hear much unless you stuck your head out the window... Running a 3" straight pipe that loud? Does it get annoying on the freeway? I need answers. Thanks.

It's a lot louder than stacks, that is for sure.

wow really? is it because it would only be a single exhaust where it would give it the extra "pop"?

I have 3" straight with a 5 inch tip. The 5" tip really mellowed it out. On the freeway its not annoying unless you are in the back seat. I love it!

I think the change in the tone has the most to do with it. Also depends if you have a reg or quad cab, too.

I have 4in, with a muffler on that I want to get rid of, and a buddy of mine just straight piped his stock exhaust and his is much louder than mine. Makes me want to cut the muffler off real bad.

Ya, it is to me. It is the difference in tone.

I ran a straight turbo to tail setup before the stacks. The stacks are MUCH better. I HAD to run a resonator with the tailpipe. Even then, all it did was get rid of the drone. Have never needed a resonator with the stacks, even under load.

I put the 5 inch straight pipe exhaust on that I got from Fram Boy Diesel Performance. Normal driving and LOW BOOST it is not much louder than stock. You can hear the turbo a lot more and the exhaust sounds like the kitchen sink garbage disposal with the exhaust brake on.

Once you start building boost pressure, especially above 10 psi.........it get kinda LOUD.

My brother straight piped his (02 quad, LB) stock exhaust and you could hear him 2 miles away. Always knew when he has home. Cab noise wasn't bad though. A banks 4 in. straight gets real bad in the cab though.
