Smile Surging 2002 3500 HO

I have a 2002 Dodge 3500 HO 6 speed. For the last few months I have been experiencing a surging at lower highway speeds (below 65 mph). If it was a gas engine I would say something similiar to bad fuel or a fouled spark plug.

It currently has 158,000 miles. I put a new lift pump on last November (less than 25,000 miles ago). I put it in the shop back in June - the idiots at the dealership told me it was the old batteries making it do that....HORSE CRAP! The only thing they did - was basically make me put 2 new batteries on it and it's still surging.

Has anyone had any experience with anything like this? Not sure if it's fuel system related...but sure seems like. Could it be an injector? I would have thought if it were the VP-44 - after all this time it would have gone out.

Im' at wits ends with it.

Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

I am having the same issues right now with my 2000. I have an Edge Comp, and the truck seems to do it only with the Comp turned on. I called Edge, and they said I could send the box in to be re-programed/examined. I have heard similar instances of this with the Edge.

Do you have any type of box/programmer on your truck?

My truck wants to be a semi when it grows up...

Have you checked your truck for any codes? If not, that would be a good place to start. Then post up the codes so we can get a better idea where to start.

Some of you might remember my truck give me a fit with the surge. This is what I replaced- APPS twice, vp44 it was bad I got 2 miles to gal more just by replace, cam sensor, injectors 3 times, airdog 100, unpluged Edge EZ, swaped turbo, swaped ECM, cleaned every ground wire and still surges. It will rpm drop heavy with the A/C on. I know the crank sensor is in the vp44 and thought that was it, no luck. When I replaced the vp it did not do it for 3 days then started all over again. I was ready to drive it off a cliff. What I mean by heavy rpm drop is you cant shift gears fast enough be fore it falls below idle thats how bad it is then it will rump rump a few times then idle right. As long as you dont use the a/c its fine Oh and heres one for the record, it has never thrown a code, even when vp was not right. It has to be electical that is the onlything that has changed it for a little while.
Ok didnt mean to still the post

when I had my 01 I went through this. I replaced the injectors and it still did it, Had the TPS replaced and it went away. Not sure if anyone has tired the TPS but if I remember correctly it is like 500 bucks for dodge to do it. Just my experience, Hope it helps.

I would check the ECM connector more so since rthe 5V supply for the sensors come from the ECM. Also the ground for the ECM is behind the starter on the block. So your required to remove the starter to access this connection...

Just to let you know the APPS is the TPS. APPS is just on the diesels.
