changed engine not charging mpg backwards

millage on my inside display started displaying in reverse when i decelerate it was showing 99 mpg now it shows 0 mpg drove this way for several hundred miles then! also after changing the engine it quit charging the power for the key on at the alt plug with two pins will power up for 1-2 seconds then goes off when the engine is started the pin is hot for 1 sec more then goes out again. changed ecu no change just changed the wiring harness same problem. had alt rebuilt and re tested on a stand charging ok I'm being told it might be pcu and doge wants $700.00 did not get the codes but check engine light is on, went off when changed the ecu then back on
2001
ram
3500
300,000 miles on original engine
what I have tried: checked the alt on the bench it is charging
changed the euc
tried 2nd wiring harness
checked to see that the battery sensor was plugged in just changed the engine out with one with 74000 miles on it
tested the power at alt two pin plug

the dislpay is working for the miles per gallon I put a new pcm on a different ecm pulled the alt had it bench tested (which is a new alt from parts store) changed the wireing harness back to the one from the orignal truck and engine (just replaced the engine) changed the crank sensor, map sensor, and temp sending unit as I was getting codes on all this when I got all the orignal parts back the codes stopped the pcm did not stop the codes nor solve the alt problem. whail at the dealer having the pcm flashed the teck hit a button on his hand held unit and the alt would charge he said the crank sensor was not sending rpm to the engine although the tack was working at the time so i changed the sending unit when i got home still no chargeing

Ya, the PCM has the voltage regulator in it. No crank signal+ no charge. Wiring problem yet, somewhere? You could install an external regulator, if need be.

The overhead console cannot be recalibrated. These thing are simply junk. I switch over to a ScanGauge II and keep up on the calibration of the SG II and it always really close to the mark!
