Dead VP44 Test

Hey,
Is there any test that can be preformed to see if a vp44 is on its way out? I know of doing the fuel pressure test already, I was just wondering if there is any other test that can be preformed....

1996 CTD ex cab LB, 5 speed 4x4, LUK clutch, 370"s, fully built and bench flowed pump from TRE Diesel, timing at 17*, airdog 150, aem brute force intake pullin air through a schwitzer 65mm charger, and pushin it out a FBD 5 inch exhaust painted flat black, 6 in. MBRP tip

Waitin for install, ARP studs, 4 GSK, and added timing

Have you checked for codes? You can do this on some of the trucks by turning the key on and off 3 times stopping the third time and watch your speedo. If you have a code it will flash it back to you.

Yes, I have checked for codes and there are a couple that have to do with the injection system, I cant remember exactly what they were offhand.... The tachometer bounces around at idle, and someone told me that this is a sign that the pump is going out... any truth to this?

When mine died from a lift pump, it would just start up and not give any throttle response. Write down your codes you will need to know that. It could be something else.

Mine does that. Far as i know its normal! What is your fuel pressure? usually i say if its between 10-13psi its the lift pump and if its below 10psi its your pump and most likely your lift pump too! So be sure to check the lift too.

I will need to disagree with you on that. 1693 means there is a error in both the ECM and PCM which you make me start checking the fuel system.
