Cool Rump, rump, rump

1999 3500 4wd 5.9. Here's the deal. Got a rump rump rump sound in reverse coming from the right front. Also I was backing yesterday with the wheels turned to the right and it felt like the drive train locked up. I pulled forward and straightened the wheels and was able to back normally (without locking or binding). Still had the rump rump noise. No, I was in 2wd.
Another thing.....My fuel guage isn't working. (I've got the sending unit). I checked my fuel mileage by the amt of fuel used by mileage. Everyway I figure, I'm getting a little over 2mpg. What's up with that? I just bought the truck, so I don't know the history. Anything you guys/gals can suggest? I appreciate it!!!! Ted

I would say that the wheel bearing is on it's way out.Better check it. it can get expensive very quickly if you don't.

WOW! not to be smart but it sounds like you should have checked this truck out a little better before you bought it! i agree with the wheel bearing, however the fuel consumption is crazy! i don't see how an engine can make that much fuel dissapear like that. check again for leaks. does it run ok other than that?

Pull the dipstick, too. Fuel in oil? Speedo at all accurate?

I get FAR better mileage than that, just pulling gravity flow wagons all day long.

replaced the hub and the rump rump is gone. Up to average 14mpg. Gettin better. No fuel in the oil. Thanks guys!!!
By the way......got another question. ABS light, fuel light, brake light, all on, and fuel guage reads empty. Put new pads on the front when I replaced the hub, and yes got the wiring correct on the sensor. The lights were on before I did any work. Some guy that says he is a diesel mechanic and knows Dodges said it was a Body Sensor Module<<<never heard of such. Any ideas???? I'd hate to run out of fuel. Thanks in advance

Fuel sender in the tank is shot...common issue. As for the ABS light.....is your speedo jumping around any?
