A Couple of Questions!

Hello all, i am thinking of buying a 2001 2500 with the 24 valve for my travels to work.. I have long highway trips of 1300km each way, I am looking for the best mileage 3/4 ton truck i can get but it has to be 4x4. I do beleive that i can expect good mpg out of this truck??? The truck i found looks real clean and taken care of although they did not put down the kms it has.So question one.. How many kms to expect from this truck? I am not sure what it would have for gears stock. 373?? What to expect for mpgs at highway speeds?? It is an automatic. How strong is the tranmission, what can i do to improve the mgs without compromising the reliability of the truck?

Thanks for any input!!

It really all depends on how you drive! You can always buy a chip or a programmer to increase power and mileage. Being stock your gonna probably get 17-20mpg, unless you get chip or a programmer yourll get maybe 20-22 maybe. It all depends on who you drive. Those transmissions are weak!! if your gonna pull or haul, i suggest getting a built tranny from gorearend (think i spelled it right) if not get atleast get a valve body and a torque converter. Being too if your transmisson is built or running right it'll save you mileage too! If you haved bought it yet, check about the fuel filter and tie rods and rust and all.

is it auto or manual? I would not worry too much about the miles. Just would like to know how the fuel pressure is. If it has the stock lift pump or in tank lift pump you will need to address that first and hope it didn't do anything to the injection pump. They are good trucks it's just that the fuel issue is a problem on these. I have found a good way to help with mpgs was going fully synthetic in my 01 with an auto and I have gotten 19.5 on the highway with mine but I don't drive nice.(I did the front and rear end and the motor trans is stock with synthetic) not sure on the metric equivalent to that. But stock auto your going to see around 16.

01 quad cab 4x4, edge drag comp, 4" exhaust, fass 150, 250 ddps, Jefferson State compounds 683hp so vp 11.91. AMSOIL front to rear. now back to stock 95 fummins in the works

Thanks for the input guys... She will be used for just highway.. I have a f-350 i use for pulling and i am just trying to keep miles off of her. So does a guy go for an aftermarket lift pump right off the batt and call it good? What does one cost and what to go with..
Thanks for the help!

Good aftermarket pumps are FASS, AirDog or Raptor all have lifetime warranties and range about $300 to $600 bucks roughly...

My personal fav is the AirDog 150...

I got a airdog 150 on my 97' Cummins (12valve) runs good except one time the fuel froze up and also got a fass 150 on my 01' Cummins (24valve) i havent had any problems out of it! My opinion the airdog is alittle quieter. I havent heard nothin about raptors except they hook on the rail (i think) and you use your factory filter
