RPMs ????

Just bought a 99 Ram 3500, and had a question about the RPMs. The truck is a six speed with the 12 valve and runs 2000 rpms at 60 mph. Is this normal operating range? I don't want to push it too hard. My '06 F250 runs 70 mph at 1800 rpms.

I know that this truck has a brand new 6 speed in it because I know the previous owner. I just hope they put the right one in it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sound like a 4.11 rear end...

As for pushing it.. I just got back from a trip... I was pushing for time more than MPG's set the cruise for 80 MPH on the Interstate and was twisting 2200 RPM's for over 60 miles.

I have the 4.11's and that sounds about right. It won't hurt the truck to run that hard, it just sucks when it comes to fuel economy I'm running about 16-17ish, and it's loud as hell. The only thing you can do is get taller gears, or something like a gear vendor aux. transmission. Also, I don't think there is a difference between the overdrive gears from a 5-6 speed, just an extra gear in between.

What gauges do you think I should put on this truck. I know fuel pressure, pyrometer, and boost. But anything else? Remember it is a 6 speed, I don't even know if you can put a trans temp gauge on it.

Thanks

Naw i wouldnt worry about it, But thats what i would go for is a pyro, boost, and fuel pressure. If your still running the stock lift pump (which runs off the cam), your gonna have to get a isolator to keep the gauge from jumping if not itll kill the gauge. But if you have a aftermarket fuel system like a Fass or a Airdog. Your fine. Its not a ness. thing to have a fuel pressure gauge like it is on a 24valve but it does help diagnose the probem.

You'd be surprised how many problems can be diagnosed between the information on your gauges and the information given by error codes...

If it's a '99 it should have the 24V......not a 12V.

My mistake, it does have the 24 valve.

Anybody know where I can get a set of 3.55 rear gears? I am going to be driving this truck about 150 miles a day and need to be able to go 70 mph and not at 2500 rpms.

Local junkyard maybe, just tear it apart and clean it real good and inspect.
