different injector pump question

My friend has 2002 dodge 2500 6 speed 140,000 miles completely stock. On the way to work injector pump went out. After work I pulled him home. He had the truck running on the way home just had in neutral for the power steering and and brakes. Its about 10 miles home. About halfway home all his dash gauges just start going crazy all the way up and then back down to zero. He flashed his lights I pulll over and we checked under the hood but everything was fine. It wasn't hot or anything. Anybody have a clue why his gauges would act like this. We replaced this injector pump about a year and half ago. He swears his gauges went crazy like this when the IP went out last time. Yes we went back with standard lift pump and should have gone with one of the after market ones. He is ordering another IP and a fass LP, and a fuel pressure gauge and we will try it again. But was just wondering why the gauges would go nuts like that ?

not sure that its VP44 related. I have never had a customer mention a gauge problem when they needed a new VP44

Sounds like a CCD network fault more than anything...
