oil leak

my freand has a5.9 cummins 2001 he has a oil leak by the power steering pump how bad is that to fix

most likely the vacuum pump. There is a through shaft that runs through the ps pump and then drives the vacuum pump. It is very common for the seal to start leaking. It is a couple hour job to replace it and the lines from the Vacuum pump are kind of a pain to get at.

here is the best seal kit that I know of for it, and what I used on mine. Go under the link that says Seal Kit on the left hand side of the web page.

You can usually see drops of oil starting to form on the shaft of the vacuum pump if you slide a mirror under it, or look up from underneath the truck.

Yeap it sounds like a vacuum pump seal is shot... There is pressurized oil feed into that system.

Because all other leaks are non-pressurized. Like cam cover, pan gasket, etc.
