help, my 24 valve is a conspiracy theory. doing a wierd thing.

here we go, i have a 99 24 valve short box. Bought it, then found out it had a 6'' crack in the block. I had the motor taken out and was professionally welded with a 2 year warranty and was put back together. rig has 59K original miles.

This is what its doing, it "eats" or "hides" coolant. When i got the truck back the radiator was full but the resevior to the left was empty. There are no leaks any where what so ever...none none none. Not leaking anywhere.

Its not mixing with the motor, getting in crackcase or nothing. And cools and is steady at 180-190 degrees, all day long no problems.

And the coolant was not flushed into the radiator, it was dry when put back together and coolant was just pored into the radiator.

When you get on it pretty good you can hear the air bubbles in the system.

But my questions is, is why do i have to fill up the resevior after a good days use??? and where is it going if its not leaking or mixing anywhere or with anything? the guy who put it back together said he put 2 gallons in radiator, and since i have probably put another 2 in it my self.

any thoughts????

thankyou very much!!

its not blowing any kind of wierd smoke, and performs fine tho.

it had a cracked block at 57K miles but i had it fixed.

i took it to a performance diesel place, and he said its just air thats being trapped that is slowly getting out and when it gets out its being replaced with coolant in the resevior.

but idk what else could it be....im kinda freaking out.

how would i know if it was a head gasket or something like that? are those a big deal?

your truck holds more than 2 gallons. Mine took 4, so your right there now. I would see if it ever stops. was it cracked in the typical spot for a 53 block? Or where?

Total capacity of the cooling system is 6 gallons...

Typically I pull the heater hose off the back to fill it so the air can escape from the block. Once coolant starts to dribble put the hose back on. Typically in 1-2 days the system will purge the rest of the air from the cooling system...
