Those belts on some mower decks can be a s.o.b. Couple things: is the new belt the correct length, a fracton of an inch can make difference, by the drawing looks like there is supposed to be an idler or guide on the top right of drawing. Is the belt on the correct side, sometimes in not much of an difference on its placement.
Dad had a cub cadet and it was always throwing the belt no matter how it was adjusted. Owners manual said engine had to be removed to change the belt. Good luck!
