2001 questions

ok going to put an exhaust on a 2001 dmax and was wondering if removing the cat was going to be a problem and throw codes if so how do you get rid of it? does this truck have an egr? Is it a good idea to remove it? If so what do you do how and what about codes?

not my truck it's my neighbors and I just research for him. Thanks for the input and yes it's a california truck

An 01' should not have a cat, look under the truck.

2001 Chevy SB/CC Duramax LB7

Garrett GT4088R from PPE, PPE Duel fuelers, PPE Tuning, PPE stage 4 transmission w/suncoast 1056 converter, PPE Lift pump, Fabtech tie rods, Black Eagle alloys.
Engine is apart and in the garage
Goal is to have it done by the end of this summer.

I thought all LB7 Cali trucks came with cat and egr, even 2001s?

Not sure if Fingers made a Fingerstick for an LB7 EGR system, did he?

I did some checking. If you remove the cat on an 01, it will probably set some codes in the computer, and it MIGHT set a check engine light. I say might because some people have had it light, while others haven't.

Yes, a Cali LB7 has an EGR. You can use an LLY blocker plate to block it off. I guess they are the same shape. Fingers didnt make an LB7 fingerstick to head off an codes, though.

I also read about Cali LB7s having air pumps. You can either block the vacuum line at the EGR or remove the pump (just run the belt the same way -- it can take up the slack). BUT, you'll set codes doing this, too.

Looks like the only way to remove the codes is to use EFI live to remove them. Maybe you can get ahold of SoCalDiesel (Guy Tripp) and see if he can help you with that?

Hope that helps.
