Which drivetrain combo best for all out performance?

Thought about building a hot small block chevy but the Dmax seems be as quick for a lot less money. I am not familiar with all the engine codes. 2wd or 4wd? Auto or manual? Low 13's goal.

02 F250 CC, 4X4,SB. DP Tunes stk, 80econ,120. NAPA 6637 air element. Summit 4" turboback. GDS hi-flo outlet. 1.0 turbine housing. HX cross-over. Modded pedestal. CCV mod. Fuel rails connected. AIH delete, pre-pump.

8th digit in the Vin -
1 - LB7
2 - LLY
D - LBZ

I would go with an auto for sure, the manuals are also hard to find.

4x4 so it hooks up, and then you still ahve a usable truck, auto lbz

1996 Gmc k2500 4x4 6.5 turbo diesel, with mods Blew the head gasket, put all new heads, valves, injecotrs gaskets etc on the truck only to get it together and find out it had no oil pressure, and sounded horrible (pry a spun bearing). SOLD

I wouldn't consider building a Dmax to be less expensive than an SBC. Think of it in reverse...you simply need a programmer and exhaust for the engine (intakes are optional) but you have to spend the $$ to build the trans to hold the power.

Most definitely want a 4x4, though. Reg Cab would be ideal for a racetruck, but even a CC can go very fast.

that, plus a small block putting out the same performance as a d-max, both with drivetrains to match, the d-max will be more efficient and stronger, more useful, less tempermental, able to have multiple running tunes, last longer, and shoot way past 13's still beating a 13's small block in all the aforementioned areas

plus small blocks don't roll the coal
