Perf module for 6 sp truck

I've heard some tuners/chips are less than desirable manners wise on manual tranny trucks. Most say that Van Aaken is the best for drivability/peddle response, is that truely the case? I like the Edge for functionability, but want to know if it make the pickup hard to drive.

The second question I have is how much HP can one tow with? I know that this is a trick question, but assume that the load is big, there is hilly terrain, and speed is max for safety. If I keep my foot out of it could I tow with the 1XX HP setting on the VA? I'm saving up for something, just need to find out what.

dieseldummy,

The Edge Juice seems to get the manuals the best out of the hole performance along with the van Aakens. One of the biggest advantages is the Edge has a pyro and boost gauge that you really need if you tow and add a performance module of any kind. This way you get the power the gauges and it even has an EGT defuel safety feature as well as monitors your transmission for slippage too etc. Really protects the truck and the tranny. For most folks it's the best value and overall top performer. Cal us at DPPI if you have any questions we'll be glad to help you.

Wait a minute, the attitude doesn't detect slip in the manual transmission..

Mark, thanks for the input. I already have guages so the Attitude moniter really isn't a big deal for me. It's mostly what will perform the best along with drivability.

Scott, you mean your 6 sp doesn't have those special input and output speed sensors... :roflmao:

Edge EZ or VA Smart Box have easily switched power levels. Edge Juice would require Attitude to adjust levels. With the stock clutch, I'd stick with a lower HP tune. The Edge EZ gives you 3 levels, the third being up close to the trouble zone...

A good clutch is in the future, assuming that there is one available that I like... Idealy I'd like the VA with a couple of more power levels like, stock, 70, 1xx, 200+. That way I could keep it in the low setting until I get a clutch and then have the power available when the clutch is in. I can keep dreaming I guess.
