what is the best air filter/ air intake?

what is the best air filter/ air intake?
I have tried several are intakes on my gas truck as well as seen alot of testing on intakes but I'm not sure what works best for diesel's. I know that volant shows a loss of power over stock but they are better then the open element kind like k&N. but from what i seen the best way to go was the outlaw intake or just replacing the filter in the stock intake with a green filter.

has anyone given the banks intake a try? it looks like they might have a good design.

Dont waste your money. Put a stock AC Delco filter in the stock airbox and leave it alone. Stock has shown to flow just fine up to 400rwhp, and if you do the swiss-cheese mod to the box, it will support over 500rwhp.

This filter test was organized by a Diesel Place member named Spicer about 3 years ago. The information is still relevant today:

Was he testing the newer EA Amsoil filters, or the older ones?

X2.

If you have a LB7 or LLY, the stock housing may be easily modified to draw cooler air.

I got a K&N filter and did not get even a tenth mile per gallon more over 10k mi. test. I replaced it with a 38 dollar Amsoil filter. Stock filters are fine.
