New 6.4 and bad fuel economy

Got a friend who just bought an 2008 6.4. F350 dually with 4.30 gears and is getting 7.8 towing an empty 40fter. What gives? Any ideas?

:thanks: in advance

I understand the break in period is normal. He drove it from Dallas,TX to Altanta,GA and now is heading back to CA. From Dallas to Atlanta not towing he averaged 10.5. It has a good 2500 miles on the odo now. Maybe more. He was just curiuos if anyone else got that kind of mileage towing. If it was normal.

Well just talked to him and he made it as far as Dallas and had to limp it into a dealership. The vgt(I think that is what he said) went out.

Another thing is that he is running 4.30 gears. Lower gears turn higher RPM's in turn robbing fuel mileage. Just my thoughts
