Belt noise issue
My new F350 is a great truck. Quick startup, quiet and clean.
I have only 350 miles on the truck and it started having a very annoying belt squeal when cold. The service guys were going to replace the belt (apparently a big process) when they got word not to perform any repairs to fix this.
I got a copy of an oasis printout from the service department that stated "Some 2006-2008 super duty vehicles with a diesel engine may exhibit a belt noise on cold engine start up. The noise is often described as a chirp or squeal. If normal FEAD noise diagnostics do not resolve concerns, do not perform any repairs. This concern is under investigation, monitor oasis for updates".
No information was given as to a time line for fixing this. I find the oasis report strange as it applies to 2006 to 2008 6.0 and 6.4 liter engines. If it has been an issue for this long, why isn't it fixed? Why do the different engines have the same unsolvable problem? Is Ford just snowing us to avoid the cost of replacing the belt?
Any thoughts or information would be greatly appreciated.
