Normal noises??

For those with a little more experience with these engines, question on sounds. My 08 F350 FX4 sounds pretty normal, but when pulling a 5th wheel on inclines, as it down shifts and the turbos are going on strong for a while, it goes into a loud humming. This humming stays on for some time. After the road levels, and the turbo boost is less than 30, the humming subsides and goes away. Is this normal to this type of engine? tia

Doesn't sound that normal unless you are in very hot weather, and its the cooling system kicking on. In that instance it would be perfectly normal. Haven't noticed it with my 6.4 yet, but my 6.0's would do that alot in the heat.

I don't know, that dosen't sound too normal to me either. I have no idea what it could be, but it might be worth a trip to the stealership, since you've still got a warranty.

Its most likely that massive fan kicking in... Mine does this as well in a hard pull going up a mountain in warm/hot weather.....

I haul a 16K plus toy hauler and when I had my F250 I would experience those sounds, but with the new 08 F350 I do experience down shifting on steep inclines, but without all the sounds I experienced before. How heavy is the load you are hauling when this occurs?

Just the fan...nothing to worry about. I heard it today as a white 08 F250 passed by me on the road..he was towing a decent load.

Go Greyhound, and leave your luggage with us. *maybe not intentionally*

The 5th wheel is like 12k unloaded, so I guess its the fan, just not used to the engine making these noises.
