Regen or not to Regen?

I'm new to diesel so bare with me. Whats with the regen? From my understanding, regen only effect MPG; but only a small amount.

well if you drive a 6.4l milage is not a concern, because it gets crappy milage, not in regen, and even crapper milage in regen.

regen is done to clean out your dpf (diesel particulate filter)

Life changes, so roll with it, not against it.
