F-Series sales down, could this be a good thing?

Just saw this article, while I am a Ford fan I have always felt that poor F-series sales will cause the F-Series product to improve! It's crazy to hear of all the probs with the new 6.4? Maybe those of us who are holding off on a new Ford 6.4 will make a difference!! We will see, I really am waiting for better reliabilty and mpgs so I can buy a new Ford diesel pickup!!

Ford's car sales dropped 10.3 percent, while its truck sales slipped 0.7 percent. Ford said sales of its crossover vehicles, the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, improved with Edge sales up 95 percent and MKX rising 78 percent. A revamped Focus small car saw sales up 44 percent.

But sales fell of sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks, Ford's traditional cash cows. Sales of F-series pickups, the top-selling vehicles in the U.S., dropped 8.4 percent, while Explorer SUV sales fell 18.7 percent compared with January 2007.

I totally agree....Ford has to get their act together. I hope they correct some of the current issues by the time mine gets built. I am probably still at least 6-8 weeks out since I just placed my order about a week ago (fully loaded FX4). Also, maybe this news will spark some additional rebates too to generate some orders. When I placed my order, there was a $3500 rebate for my area through end of January, but now I see Ford decreased it to $3000 through end of February. I may have to hold out signing my contract as long as possible to see if Ford steps up again.

mackb61: how long have you been waiting for yours?

Well, I have bought numerous new Chevys, Dodges, BMWs, Land Rovers, Fords, Jeeps, etc. and they all had their signifcant problems or issues, especially on new model introductions. But that didn't prevent me from buying any of them again as I enjoyed them all. Just a risk we take buying the first model runs. As they say, it's usually best to wait a year or so to let the manufacturer's work out the bugs. The new F250s have been out for a bit and Ford is on Job 3 so hopefully things have improved. We'll see.

Well, not sure what that means? You being critical because I wasn't? I was agreeing with your original post. I am just saying we take the risk of buying first year runs of any new model but that doesn't mean I wouldn't buy any of them again. That's just my opinion.

I am not brand loyal at all, I like the new fords, chevy and dodge, I even like the new toyota tacoma. I do know that we bought a 94 dodge, first of the new style I had seen. I was a p.o.s. . I bought a 95 and it was a much better truck. I want to get another diesel, probably a pre 6.0 250. I will always be afraid of first year model anything.
