QUESTION : RE : contamination of oil with fuel

Hey guys, just want an education on this subject. How much if any fuel is suppose to get into the oiling system in 5,000 miles between oil changes. I never owned a desiel before this and do not know if its normal to gain some oil on the dip stick between oil changes. thanks for any information and an education on this subject.....roy

Ford is saying up to 6% is acceptable in the 6.4L?
I'm only passing on what another forum said which had this same discussion.

I too on my last oil change had a level above full and they did a leak test on my injectors and it passed.

Yes it is normal to get some fuel in the oil. It is due to the regen process. If you are towing heavy you could gain several quarts in 5,000 miles.

thanks guys....6% of 15 quarts....= one qt, that would def show a little high on the dip stick, and an other thing these dip sticks are hard to read, some oil allways smeared on and above the white marking area making it hard to tell if oil over the white area or not, seems to settle out on the white plastic area showing full with some on the metal part of dip stick also above the white area on the metal. I towed a 8000 lb TT about 4000 miles of the 5000 since last oil change. I just got the newest reflash and really like that it tells me when in regen and that does not do it anymore in "P" or "N"....thanks again for the info.

Also one thing to remember is, not to overfill the oil during a oil change. This is a common mistake that some people and oil change people make, they fill it to the high mark on the dipstick with cold motor oil. Oil expands with heat, just as most anything does. When refilling the oil after an oil change its best common practice not to fill the oil to more than halfway on the dipstick reading between the low and full marks. The halfway reading should be after running it a few minutes and then letting it settle for at least 5min after the oil change, then read the dipstick, it should read around halfway. After driving your vehicle to full operating temps and you go to recheck your oil, it will likely read near or at the full mark after the oil has expanded. Harry

Harry, that's great advice. I have also been told to NOT just throw 15 quarts in and call it a day for that reason. People seem to notice that 15 quarts puts it to the top of the dipstick, even with a filter change.

I have tested my oil the last 4 changes, Blackstone Labs, and it is around 2.1%. Stock. That was both heavy towing and empty, 5000 miles between changes. Now I don't know if Ford considers this normal because I can't get an answer from the dealer what is normal.

hydro, yep that's me...I had the dealer do mine and they say they will put in 15 qt because that what ford calls for. I have a 75,000 mile/7 year warentee and only put about 7,000 miles a year on it and cause I get them to do all my oil changes they own my engine till I hit 7 years or 75,000 miles(I hope). I know warentee claims can not work out the way you think sometimes.but hopefully with all changes done there they will have to cover engine wear etc due to overfull or fuel in oil. hope I never have to find out.
