Dual Alternators

OK here is the problem I am nowhere near my truck or will be able to look at my paperwork. I have the dual alternators but was wonder what exactly they are... the info I remember was 320amps but don't know if thats 2 160ampers or 2 320ampers....

can anyone clear this up?

the DUAL alternators are NOT a continuous COMBINED output, and as
i recall they are rated at about 120 or 140 amps (each) at the most.

they are configured and CONTROLLED in a primary / secondary (backup)
method.

i dont know how it worked out on the 6.4 but the DUAL alternators
in the 6.0 required the inter-cooler plumbing to be SERIOUSLY crimped (aka SMASHED)

for the new 6.4 liter they offer a extra heavy duty alternator, this is 200amps.

Like said already duals does not me you have 2 alternators working at the same time, it means there are 2 if the lil one cant do it the big one takes oves, unless they are IDENTICAL you cannot run them at the same time and even then its parallel not in a series.

ARP studs, sct, Leveling kit,Airdog set at 62psi with no factory pump, leveling kit,5" stacks, under cab lights, Large in the way Fan shroud Removed, bed Lights being Re-did. Large Alternator(250amps)(130 amps was so 2003). On 3rd set of Hgs(soon to be 4th), 2nd set of heads, 2nd tubro, egr cooler, FICM and more. When i Turn the Key it does return a Favor, not always in MY Favor.

why would you ever want them to be connected in series? just to try your whole electrical system or what that would yeild what 29 volts give or take??

Yes they are run in parallel, both are 160 amp alts.

They are stacked one over the other, the top is in the normal location the second is below.

I thought one was the 200 amp (HD one) one and the other was a normal 120? Was it like this on the 6.0's?

2008 Red CCSB 6.4 Auto Lariat.
Stock 20's wrapped in 35x12.50R20 Toyo MT's, 3.73 gears, Nav, Backup Cam, Tailgate step, Upfitters, etc.
Mods: AFE Intake, Line-X, 20% Tint, Clear Bra, Husky Mats, Smoked Recon Mirror markers/3rd brake light, Bushwacker Pocket style flares w/ mud flaps + an aluminum Rapid Hitch (one of the best investments!)

That is the info i found on it, one big200 and one lil one. from what i understand running 2 alternators at the same time can cause problems if one is not putting out the same frequencies as the other.
