Particles in Trany Fluid??

So I got home today and let the truck sit for about 10 minutes and decided to check the fluids. The oil was fine so i went to check the Tranny Fluid. It was red like its supposed to be but on the bottom of the dip stick were small particles... not real fine like you would find on a magnetic oil plug but they were noticeable.
Could this have been burnt clutch material?
I checked the level again after wiping the dip stick clean and more were present on the dip stick!!!

Kinda worried bout this. also there are 23,000 miles on the truck and Tranny flud has never been changed.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Diesel Farmer

what color is the fluid? if its still red its probably just from break-in, should do the fluid after a 5k mile break-in..I'd change the fluid out and filter and see what happens. Small particles are normal during break-in but big pieces aren't...my friend took out what looked like gravel from his 700r4...needless to say it didn't last another month

well this is defenatly not what tranny oil should look like. just to compare i pulled the stick on the duramax and it was red and slick. the fluid in my ford is gritty! like really fine sand almost?

Any Ideas?

Does your truck slam into gear sometimes? Mine will shift extremely hard sometimes and violently jolt the truck. My trans fluid is the same way and I just dropped it off at ford.

Yeah I've never heard of that many particles, definitly shouldn't be like sand, its common to get some shavings in the drainpan on the magnet, but from the way you talk I'd say something isn't right, but its odd the fluid is still light and not burnt up and black

Guess what Problem solved! So i took the truck into ford today to do a full transmission flush and had them drop the tranny pan and i asked to look inside. the inside was clean with just the normal metal stuff on the magnet. the dirt and grit that i was getting when i pulled the dip stick was actually on the inside of the dip stick tube! so the stick may not have been all the way in or may have worked itself loose somehow and a little dust or dirt stuck to the oily surface inside the tube. fluid was fine but better safe than sorry.

We all learn from stuff like this that is the good thing. The service tech cleaned it out and said there was some dusty small particles that came out of the top of the tube. Problem solved better safe than sorry

I pulled my dip stick last eve after reading this and yea, I had some kinda crumbly debris on the end of the dip stick. after cleaning and reinserting it 3-4 times it came up clean, wonder what the hell that could be, kinda strange. I have org fluid with 10,000 miles on it. will prob get it changes when get time and money.

LUCK IS WHERE OPPORTUNITY MEETS PREPARATION.
