synthetic oil ????

I would like to get some opinions from some of you, on when you think its time to switch to synthetic oil. I only have 2200 miles on my 08 dually. The rotella synthetic is now cj-4 compliant. Any thoughts on break in mileage before running a full syn?

After break in. Need to let the rings seat. I always wait till 20,000 miles. Don't forget running syn, you should still change filters as often as running dino.

As a general rule wait a minimum of 10,000 miles before switching. Some vehicles you will need to wait longer, others, less. Good luck.

Imo its not a set amount of miles its how its bin driven and what loads you've towed. Towing heavy loads 10k is plenty. Not towing and/or driving like a pansy the rings may take 30k or maybe never seat.

I know everyone has their reasons, and oil and break in are like religion everyone has their own beliefs, but why do you want to switch to syn, ive used it, use it in my bike, but on the truck i think its better to get it swapped out more often 5k changes, as apposed to say 7-15 syn at a higher price, you'll never filter out the soot and other micro abrasives once again imho

My situation is, i only use the truck for pulling about 14,500 and it does it well. But it turns the oil black almost immediately, and i thought after break in, it would protect the motor a little more to run syn, and i personally would never try to go 10,000 on a oil change, the way i pull it. I have a 7.3 that will go 3000 miles and the oil is still clear, but i don't pull it hard at all. Guess it is all that extra unburned diesel and soot that turns the oil black so quickly.
