Howling noise under certain rpm's?

I get a "air howling" noise from under the hood when under light throttle (typically when rpm's are between 1, 600-1,800), and has been doing it for a while. Seems to be more noticeable when temps are colder outside. Anyone else had this or have any idea what could be causing it? It sounds turbo/air intake related to me, but i could be completely off.

I guess i need to take it in and get it fixed so i can get the sct or spartan package! I just hate going to the stealership.

2008 F-350, 6.4L, crew cab, long box, dark shadow gray, Job 2, w/all options except navi or backup camera. Lot's of exterior mods, 4" turbo back stainless steel flo pro exhaust & spartan tuned.

Are you towing when it happens? If so it is the fan clutch kicking in. Sounds like a jet. If you are not towing and if that fan is kicking in, check your coolant. You may have one of the bad radiators. If it is none of that....maybe the belt or idler pulley? Hope it helps

Are you POSITIVE it's under the hood?...because a bad gearlash set-up in your diff makes the same sound.....if it's not that,...you might have a cracked up-pipe

Nope, not towing, i know what the fan sounds like, completely different. This sounds like the wind howling/whistling by your house at night when it's really blowing. Coolant level seems to fluctuate, but have never had to add/been low

Interesting, mine mostly does it when cold and typically goes away once warm as well!

Positive that it's coming from the front of the truck! Cracked pipe could explain it.

It can be very annoying when cold out, especially around town, does yours typically go away once warm as well?? Thanks!

yeah it does get annoying cold when cold, normally takes quite afew miles to quit. I dont think mines a cracked pipe bc it takes driving to go away for me, and as soon as i stop it quits.
