Cold Air Intake & EGR Issues

A friend of mine got stranded in Scottsdale,AZ yesterday. He was towing his 36' Fifth Wheel. The truck lost power and was towed into the dealership in Scottsdale. The dealership told him his AirRaid filter caused the EGR valve to carbon up and fail. They replaced the EGR with a new model that doesn't use any air vents for cooling. My question is "has anyone ever heard of a CAI effecting the EGR valve operation"? That is a new one to me and I suspect that it was a local service manager's decision to charge him $765.00 for the repair instead of covering the problem under warranty. The overall bill to the customer with tow and motel stay was over $1000.00. Because this happened after normal business hours Ford's road side assist line was answered in India or Pakistan and they gave him grief over getting a tow with teh 5th wheel attached. They actually wanted him to leave the trailer on the side of the interstate. The local Sheriff nix'd that so the whole rig was tow'd to the dealer.

I had the same issue, only the dealer told me the EDGE tuner was the cause.. The dealer also made all repairs under full warranty. I have an S&B intake.

I spoke to my buddy over the weekend. He called the stealership and spoke to the GM. He was told that if he continued to complain they would note his VIN that aftermarket products are installed. They are taking the position that they did him a favor by fixing it at all under the circumstances. He is not giving up. The SEMA Action Network program is reviewing his complaint. AirRaid referred him there as they have no one internally to handle this type of issue.

I'd go straight to Ford, it'll get him further.
