What is this thingy in the engine bay?

After my power steering broke, I recently washed out the engine bay (for obvious reasons if you saw the before pictures). I had to take out the air cleaner to really get the sand/mud out, and found this piece not even connected to anything. What the heck is it? The tube end looks like it's supposed to be in the air box, but I couldn't find anything for the other end to connect to.

I didn't worry about it, until a couple days after cleaning the engine bay, and only about 90 miles later, my check engine light came on, but my DashDaq couldn't detect any codes. So I cleared codes anyway, and I haven't had the light come back on since. That's the first time I've thrown any code since installing the 250, and I went straight from stock to 250 and have not touched it since the install almost a year ago.

That is an air pre-heater. Pulls warm air from the back of the engine and puts it in the intake. Stupid IMO.

Lets just say not quite stock.

About like this worthless piece of hose and plastic on my truck. I think I'm going to cut the kinked end off and use it as a funnel!
