EGR Valve Removal

Took the truck for a check engine light to the dealer. Dealer says needs new EGR valve, they cleaned it so I could drive the truck until the part came in. Dropped off the truck before vacation only to come back and find it not fixed yet. They say they got the part, but can't get the tool to replace it from Ford. This is a Ford dealership. They have now been waiting/sitting for near 4 weeks for the removal tool.

Is there a special tool to remove it (2008 6.4L)?
Can you clean it without removing it. (Said they cleaned it during the time they were waiting for the part.

Thanks for any help here.

I honestly don't know anything about it's removal. Certain tunes have it disabled but it seems that you are all stock
Seems like the dealer is screwing you around, I'd go somewhere else if possible.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge on the EGR valve will chime in for you
Good luck!

Why would you need a special tool? Did you ask them what that tool was?

The truck is stock. I did not ask what the tool was either. Probably should. I did an Internet search for it and could not find anything.

I'm also stuck with this dealer for now. Next closest is 180 miles away. Truck only goes about 30mph right now.

You would think so! They say they they have ordered the part and not got it for over 3 weeks. So the truck sits.

6.4LKids truck was throwing an EGR valve code and he didnt wanna deal with putting the DPF back on to take it to the dealer so he just bought a new one and had me put the new one in. And I'll admit it was a HUGE pain in the *** putting it in, first I sat there and pried up on it with a screwdriver and it was very slowly coming up. Then I said "F" it and just wacked it with a hammer and broke it into pieces and it came right out. I sure wish I wouldve had the puller tool.

EGR removal

Yes there is a tool for removing the EGR valve. If you are having problem with a code with your EGR like p0404 (range performance) the valve is getting stuck and the computer is getting a bad feedback. This happened to mine. On the EGR valve motor, this is a black cover held on with 3 torques screws. Remove and you'll see the linkage. This is a 12 to 6 o'clock range motor that opens the valve. I used oil and manually operated until it free-up. I just did a NJ to Montana and back trip and found that towing I have an EGR cooler leak. This I believe was the cause of the valve sticking. If having the valve stick open you'll lose all your boost psi. and have no power.
