Just a suggestion

Hey guys and gals I wanted to pass this on as a reminder to everyone that with all the addition of big power in these trucks comes weak links everywhere. I have done everything I can do to keep from breaking the truck with all the addition of hp and tq that I am throwing at it but last night at the truck pulls I was reminded that things will still let go the pics are of the rear center section that broke and turned up about 10" along with the aftermath. but then again Im not complaining about the power just suggesting to have the center section welded to the axle tubes...lol[IMG][/IMG]

I was trying to load pics but it wont take them so it actually broke the spot welds on the center section of the rear axle twisted it up towards the bed which caused the driveshaft to snap at the carrier bearing which I belive bent the pinion shaft and pulled it about 3/4 of an inch out of the housing[/IMG][/IMG]

Please correct me if I'm wrong -- but it sounds like you actually spun the axle tubes in the diff. housing?

This was fairly common on Ford 8.8 rear axles that came in Ranger Pickups and Explorers (we used to swap them into jeeps).

actually the tubes stayed put because of the traction bars and the diff rotated up. if you look at the first pic that pinion snout where the driveshaft connects should be facing forward. you should not be able to see it in that picture
