Question Having a pump turned up 10% input/opinions ?

I have an oddball car Ive been commuting to work in; 81 Peugeot 505 Turbodiesel. I prefer my Ford diesel, but fuel prices suck ($3.75 gal where I'm at) and this car does get 37 mpg.

Long story I took the old engine out to repair a bad oil leak.
Found a rebuilt engine for cheap so, it's a no brainer that I grabbed it & I'm throwing it in. But........

Problem is at 80 horsepower it has no balls even with a turbo.
Does anyone think if I have the pump turned up 10 % it will make a noticeable improvement ? Should I get a pyrometer & watch the EGT ?
Thinking about a K & N filter while I'm at it: opinions ?

You know you live in a Country run by idiots if....
Hard work and success are rewarded with higher taxes
and government intrusion, while slothful, lazy behavior
is rewarded with EBT cards, WIC checks, Medicaid and
subsidized housing, and free cell phones.

Garage
You MUST get a pyro, or you will burn up a couple of pistons. This is true in ANY turbo-diesel engine.

Don't need a pyro in passenger car. If it's the Lucas rotary pump then there's a problem with timing when turning it up. It's like Cummins PT system, it advances timing when you turn more fuel to it. So, when you give a lot of fuel to it, at some point you must retard the timing and that makes fuel economy worse. But it's a very strong engine and takes a lot of abuse.
