What's a "vag com"?

I realize it must be some sort of diagnostic tool but is it a cable, adapter, software, what???

vag com is the software used to communicate with the audi and vw computers..

I see. I'll have to pick one up now that we have a V-Wee in the family. I saw 2 software versions: 311.x and 409. What are the advantages to either?

I would think you would need the hex-can version 512.4.... What year VDub you got? All coding in there is binary... so you also want to dowload the code reader and get used to this page.

I will offer this out to members.. I have the cable, an anyone can borrow it for a week. the cable was 300+ dollars... so no sense everyone getting one... But it is cool to add things like your windows going down when you hold the unlock button, and then closing when you hold the lock button.

I saw hundreds of cables on eBay for around $30. I just typed in "vag com". By the way, we have an '06 TDI Golf. One of the last on the East coast...

If you buy one of those cables, they will not work with the ross-tech software... The ross tech cable has a chip in it that helps it communicate with the computer and car.
