300SD Pump Fuel Turn Up

Can anyone do a write-up on turning the pump up on a 300SD without getting a runaway? I put a 300SD engine in a ford ranger for a guy awhile ago and he wants a little black smoke now!

How come you guys engines miss every other powerstroke? Your truck, 0 to 180 in 1-2-3-4stroke, My Truck, 0 to 180 in 1-2stroke!
I belive truck boxes are infinitely cooler than 30" rims -You can't store squat in a hubcap.

83 has an MW pump. there a FEW things you can do that will pump up the power slightly, but make sure you have gauges.

First is the removal of the rack limiter. What that does is allow you to get full start fuel when the accelerator is pushed all the way down. This is a good write up with pics. You will need to join to see the pictures.

The next thing you can do is adjust the torque control. BE VERY CAREFUL with this is it can cause a runaway scenario.

See pic below:

The picture is of the back of the MW pump.Depending on the placement of your oil filter you will more than likely have to remove the pump. Adjust the torque contorl should be done in 1/4 turn or less increments. The trick is tightening the lock nut back down without undoing you adjustment.

Read here about some other things you can do.

Do be aware the MB has the pump at about 90 to 95% of maximum fuel delivery so you won't gain much. Make sure that the valves are adjusted properly and that IP timing is correct. If you have access to a Bosch tech, you might consider a flow bench test of the pump before you do anything. Also make sure that your injectors are popping at the right pressure and the spray pattern looks good.

Thanks, I'll be giving that a go. That's definitely the pump it has.
