TDI Forums

Hay I was just wondering if TDI club was a good place to go for info? I am interested in getting a TDI for a mileage machine (no hurry not in the budget now). So I figured I would start looking and searching for info about the in's and outs of the TDI.

Before we purchased my '01 TDI, the tdiclub.com was where we were at. It is an excellent place to gather info on the TDI's. This forum here on TDG is also doing well. So ask away. :HappyMugs

We are here for ya

Thanks SeeYa! I thought that was the sight of choice but not sure. I will definitely keep the TDG crew up to date with my progress. As for now I just need to study.

Absolutly :agreed:

If you need to know basicly anything and everything about TDI's give user Kerma i.e. http://www.kermatdi.com a PM over there. He is the man for TDI's.

I also have one Blake. I learned a lot on the TDI club, but like anywhere, you need to look at the info closely.

Some info...
VW TDI's need special oil.. at least the PD motors (04-current) PD=Pump Duece.
The way I understand it, the fuel pump is run off the cam.
The oil is 505.1 made by castrol, and only available at the dealer for about 6 bucks a liter.
Takes 4 liters for an oil change, and its nice to use a pump like Pela to get the oil out.
The drain plug is under skid guards.
I just got the Bully Dog chip and its nice, I have not been able to test it much with the snow. I also have a Van Akken chip on the way, so we will see...

The older ones were lighter and got better mileage. Calculating by hand I an from 42 to 48. The 48 came from a total highway trip. I average 44 to 45.

People at the tdi club will not like chips, they like upsolute and rocketchips. I stayed away from them because they solder a chip on your computer and you have to send it back to him to remove the programing if you need warranty work.

Plus, I like to drive like a grandmother because speed really scares me.
Fixed it for you.

As of now I'm considering a golf. I don't plan to get to crazy with it (said that about the Dmax) maybe wheels and springs (I like the looks of the R32)

If I want to go fast I'll take the truck! But for the back and forth stuff I wouldn't mind 50mpg.
