Hey VW TDI People...

How are your TDIs? Any major problems? Mileage? Girlfriend wants a new car (well, her parents say she needs a new one). She wants a Jeep Grand Cherokee (again), but since she drives 500+ highway miles a week, she needs something more fuel efficient. Bout the only car she likes is a 2009 TDI Jetta. So, how are they? She wants a blue one, automatic (bleh), with leather, butt warmers, and a sunroof. Local dealer has about 6 in blue alone. What price are you paying for them? These all have $1000 added to the MSRP for "market adjustment"

We bought ours in 2004 and it was $1000 above msrp. No dealing, that's the price if you want it. I think we paid <20k, I know they are a bit more now. Around town we get between 48-50 mpg, the autos don't do quite as well. On the highway completely loaded down cruising at 80-90 the mileage goes down to about 44-46. I would highly recommend buying a tdi of any year.

What kind of mileage do the new ones get? The sticker says 40 highway on the auto... Friend owns one and he says his wife gets 38 driving like an idiot around town...

We love our '06. We have had no problems with it during the time weve owned it, 15k. When we found this one we drove there the day they got it on trade and picked it up then as we knew it would be gone by the weekend. While there, they had 2 of the '09's, and they are quiet, it would be hard to tell the difference if you didnt know the years. I have heard the '09's arent quite as stringent on fuel as the '06 and previous. They are CR injected. In my sig there is a link to my mpg's from a 600 mile round trip and it checked out hand calc. Average speed on that trip was 62mph.

If I was in the same boat I'd do it again in a heart beat. We love this car. I would think anyone who likes "cars" would be more than impressed with these TDi Jetta's.

That's good... cause she (and I) both like to boogie on the highway. She's been, ah, "certified" at 95 MPH in her Jeep...

I want to get one, however getting a house is priority one at this time. I wouldn't mind the '09's. The emissions stuff stinks compared to the older ones, however they seem to be getting the mileage and there is that $1300 tax credit. Chris

Our 09 Sportwagen TDI gets 37 in town and 44 to 47 on the open road driving under 70. The 1300 tax credit was nice. I'm tempted to buy a sedan also, by the time the government gets done VW TDI's will be a premium. Looks like they want to force us into buying US econo junk next year.

Zach,

We have an 05 TDI Jetta Wagon... Fuel mileage is consistently in the mid-40s. We bought it new and it now has about 74K on it.. It's been a great little car.. I highly recommend them..
