Question Has anyone ever put a VW TDI in a 914?

If so, did it take much fabrication?

I'm interested in possibly doing a transplant on my car.

Hmmmm, lets see...

Putting a water cooled heavier inline motor into a mid engine flat air cooled motor designed chassis????

Kinda like putting a steam engine in the Hindenburg...

Maybe you should explain that to all the people who cram SBCs into 914s.

After a little more research, I have discovered that it would cost roughly 10-15 thousand dollars to put a decent TDI engine in the car. It takes a good amount of fabrication.

Oh well.

Prolly more than that to do a SBC in the 914. You could buy a TDI sedan late model for 10 or 15k. A little more and you could have a 2009 TDI.

The folks in the video you posted have a lot more than 15k in that car. A good sleeper it is, but not worth the $ to me considering the added weight and drivetrain headaches.
