Thinking about a Jetta TDI

Hey guys, Ive been on the forum here for a good bit and we are considering a Jetta TDI (2010) can you guys give me the good, bad, and the ugly? I want to hear it all, maintenance costs, longevity, fuel mileage, etc.

I would also like to know what is the best chip for the $$$ to get fuel economy up? Whats the cost of the chips? I have done a little research on my own but yall would probably be a good bit mroe knowledgable. Thanks in advance guys I appreciate all your help.

2 weekends ago I bought a black 03 Jetta TDI. Its a great vehicle. I did some research on these and found that if you are looking for the best fuel mileage, the 99-03 models are the best. Go to for some good info. I filled it up (only 13.065 gallons and it was sippin fumes) the day after I bought it(sunday) and havent filled it up since. It will be two weeks this sunday. I have 475 miles on this tank and its got over an 1/8th of a tank still And I do mostly city driving, its only 8 miles to my work one way and only 4 of it is highway.

As for a chip, I dont know about the 2010, but my 03 doesnt need one. I didnt buy it for speed or power, just good mpgs and reliability. Hell, its only got 90hp to begin with so a chip that adds 20hp only brings me up to 110hp. I do know the chips are pretty expensive, likee $500 and for only 20-30hp, it just aint worth it. A scangauge is what I would get. It pretty much teaches you how to drive the car to get the best mpgs.

Overall I love mine. Its nothing like driving my truck, but you cant beat the mpgs. Plus they are very reliable and most people cant believe that it has a diesel in it.

I second going over to it's where I spend most of my spare time. Excellect people with tons of knowledge. Here's a link to the 2010 tdi specific forum: That's a good place to start. I own a 2006 TDi Jetta w/DSG, I love the mpg I have averaged 44.2 over the last 20k miles.

As for known quirks, I've only heard of two really. One being a recall and extended warranty for the DSG tranmission. The other possible problem is high pressure fuel pump failure due to possibly contaminated fuel. Others have their opinions about that issue but know real proof.

As far as chips for the car, I belive there is one company doing it but I don't recall what company is doing it. Sorry.

Good luck, I hope this helps some.
