Question Which Diesel Motor/Truck is the best?????????

My family and I are stuck in a 2003 6.0 Powerstroke. We are trying to find something better. However, every time we find a truck we really like we do research on it and find massive problems. I'm praying we find something soon before we tow our camper to Florida in a few months. We found an 07 Dodge with low miles at a good price and then researched online to find out people are having nothing but trouble. We have had our own trouble with the Powerstroke. And people think there is gold in a Chevy and GMC diesel. We can't find one in our price range without a LOT of miles. Are the 6.4 Powerstrokes any better than the 6.0? Is the 07/08 6.7 cummins as bad as they say? Can anyone help us figure out which truck to buy????? Thanks, all help is appreciated.

Without trying to start an online message board urinary olympics (which you may have apparently already done!), I believe they can all be good trucks if you learn how to work out the bugs specific to each different make/model. Maybe you even get a good one (which many are) and never have a problem without doing a single thing to it. But IMHO, the Dodge's Cummins is the easiest to get set up right (modded for improved performance and reliability), and the least costly to do a given level of such modification.

Thanks for your response! We actually found an 07 6.7 cummins with only 17,000 miles on it in our price range. However, I looked online and haven't found anything positive about it today. We were going back this weekend to buy it but now we aren't too sure what to do!!

I believe the only real issues with those 7.5 model year (6.7) and up trucks is the DPF and EGR systems, which seem to cause more trouble in the trucks that don't get worked hard. The turbos, DPF and the EGR/intake get dirty and build up crap becasue they don't get hot enough long enough keep them clean. The simple solution is to delete the stuff if possible, or if you tow with it regularly it may not even be an issue.

Thanks for the information. We would be towing a fifth wheel camper the majority of the time we used it. Thanks again.

I worked on the 6.7 Cummins for 2 years before the engine came in a Dodge. When I was leaving I could get a huge discount to buy the Dodge as an employee of Freightliner. I bought the GMC with a duramax.
I would go to an automatic transmission shop and ask them which transmission they work on, and what they think. That is on a stock truck.
I have 69,000Kilometers on mine and the center bearing went out at about 50,000K and it had an oil leak from new all done immediately, NO Charge.
I live in the mountains and pull heavy. Ford was never in the running with me.

Kip hit the nail on the head. They all build great trucks these days. All manufacturers will have their own issues separate of the others. Chose which truck best fits you and your needs. Never buy souly off other peoples experiences because how they use a truck will almost never align with how you will use yours.

That's why people ask questions and try to get advice on forums like this.

"Buy whatever you like" doesn't help much.

Anyone who doesn't want to try and help explain the problems is a complete moron.
