New AMSOIL OE 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil

OE 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil (quart part # OED)

Formulated for Excellent Diesel Engine Protection and Performance
AMSOIL OE 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil provides excellent protection and performance in both on- and off-road diesel engines for the original equipment manufacturer’s recommended drain interval. It meets API CJ-4 specifications and is suitable for both modern and older diesel applications. AMSOIL OE 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil exceeds the higher performance demands of modern engines and withstands the stress of heat, soot and acids to help prevent deposits, wear and corrosion.
AMSOIL OE 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil is recommended for diesel engines and, where appropriate, gasoline engines requiring any of the following specifications:

• API CJ-4, CI-4+, SM...
• DDC 93K218
• Cummins CES 20081
• MB 228.31
• CAT ECF-3, ECF-2, ECF-1-a
• Mack EO-O Plus
• Volvo VDS-4
• MAN 3575
• Renault RLD-3
• MTU Type 2.1

AMSOIL OE 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil is compatible with conventional and synthetic motor oils. Mixing AMSOIL motor oils with other oils, however, will reduce the performance benefits.

Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL motor oils.

AMSOIL OE 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil is recommended for the intervals stated by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Refer to the owner’s manual for specific oil change interval recommendations. AMSOIL recommends the oil filter be replaced at each oil change as recommended by the OEM. When using an AMSOIL By-Pass Filtration System, refer to the By-Pass Oil Filter data bulletin (G498) for more information.

Depending on application is just isn't that good for the price. An engine that takes 11 gallons of oil just to get to the full mark on the stick, that can be very pricey. Even Amsoil is only recommending oil life at the same as the OEM, which for me is around 20,000 miles. I drop 140,000 miles a year.

Compare that to the brand of syn blend I get now, Mystik JT-8 15w40 syn blend, at $58 for a 5 gallon pail, or $11.60 a gallon, to Amsoil OE 15w40 which is $20.45 a gallon at preferred customer pricing, and that doesn't even include shipping.

For longevity? I currently have 874,000 miles on a Cummins ISX 15L engine, 20,000 mile OCI's, and latest oil sample looks as good as any engine with a quarter of the life on it. Iron 3, Lead 9, tin <2, chromium 3, copper 3, soot <2, no water, no glycol, no fuel. Viscosty 14.6 and 6 TBN after 20,000 miles. Amsoil could hardly improve on those numbers, and not prove cost effective.

In some special applications, Amsoil is pretty good. I use it for some applications. But overall, it is not as cost effective. Guess that is why they have a difficult time breaking big into the commercial transportation market. Not even sure it is worth it for those that just use a few quarts.
