Smile Engine oils

Engine oils, I figure a thread dedicated to the liquid we service the most often should be established. We have become to know that if you change the oil in your engine it may even sound different from older mechanical to newer electronic. Different additive combinations between the companies out there are obviously in competition, we shouldn't forget about the filter either.

Who prefers what and why, or if you have switched from one to the other then why did you do that? What engine are you running? How many miles? Turbocharged, non-turbocharged, etc...

Here are some oil brands to get the ball rolling
Rotella
Mobil
Lucas Oil
Amsoil
Royal Purple
Pennzoil
Kendall
Castrol
Valvoline
Delo

Garage
Rotella or Mobil 5w-40 plus Archoil 9100

Whichever is on sale or has the best rebate. Rotella continues to win since I am able to get it for same price as mineral oil with discounts.

I am not sure how the Valvoline C category oil measures up, but, I think the regular S category in passenger cars can't hold up much. The oil gets dirty way too quick IMO even with a good filter. Either has a higher TBN and the oil is at its limit early or the oil additives just plain break down quickly.

I never realized that Delo is Chevron brand last time I looked at that engine oil. What do you see as far as longevity of using Chevron Dodge? I have never used any Chevron brand engine oils.

Can't say I have ever seen a oil related failure. Use it in every thing from Cat D6 with 3306 engine ~15,000 hrs, 3306 pump engine ~18,000 hrs, on down to 4 cyl Kubota tractors. Got several John Deere 4045 engines in the 15-20,000 hrs. Even ran 15-40 in a dodge Caravan, 3.8L (glad the days of vans are over) for 220,000 miles when I sold it still running strong. Towed a larger tent trailer every summer loaded up to the roof and cargo rack on top.

My chevron oil use goes back to when they sold it in the cardboard gallon cans.. Seen a many a engine tore down for overhauls, and the ones that got reasonable pm's, all looked pretty good inside for the hrs they had or life they lived.. I also used it in many different engines, including a couple gassers.. I swore by it.. Back around 06' the tdr did a study on many different brands of oil, and their contents.. This was about the time most brands were changeing to the low emission formulas we now see on the labels.. The tdr findings found that certain additives were a bit lacking in the newer chevron oil[ and some others] , especially when used in engines with solid lifters like the little b series cummins.. Their suggestions was to be a real stickler on oil changes be it by mileage/hrs or even months when useing oils like the chevron brand.. It seems cam wear could become an issue.. Since i own several b series engines, i switched to a different brand.. I currently only use chevron oil in one of my trucks, a 6.0 ford, and have been pleased with it [ its the new synthetic]..

So I get a hat today from a coworker who received it from a customer of his. It is a company that makes lubricants both motorsports and other. Company name is Cen-pe-co Lubricants.

Anyone used their products? They are based in Cleveland Ohio.
