Basic Diesel Mechanical References NEEDED

Hi all...

I'm a current diesel truck and tractor owner, but I don't do any work on my own engines. I'd like to, though - and would like to find out what references you experienced diesel wrenchers can suggest so that I can get a good OVERALL understanding of diesel engines.

My ultimate goal is to purchase a used transit bus - I have my eye on the Flxible Metro-B 40102-6C (see below) with the Cummins L10 in it - and convert it to a motorhome/tailgate vehicle with a built-in keg cooler. I'm sure the only affordable bus I'll be able to find will need a lot of work - and engine and transmission work is what I'm not very skilled in - hence the request for good reference books...
