6-354 Perkins

We have completely rebuilt a 6-354 Perkins.

Everything was done to spec. but we are only getting slightly over 200lbs compression.

Any ideas of what may be the issue?

Any and all feedback will be greatly appreciated.

is the comppresion reading the same all 6 cylinders ??

there are few thing in my mind what can cause low compression.,

did you the OEM or aftermarket cylinderhead gasket ?? [ some have diffrent thickness it will affect the commpression.

what the cranking speed you are getting about ??

to read good commpression you need to spin at least min of 200 rpm on this type of engine.

some Perkins engine do have compression relase lever on it [ not all have this so just keep in your mind watch out with it ]

did you gap the piston rings at 120 apart ?
[ this is pretty picky on this item ]

very rare but it do happend wrong piston in there as well.

Merci, Marc

I put the compression rings in upside down (once), after about 100 miles I pulled it back down and had two looks. Second noticed the shape on the end of the ring.

Valve Adjustment Or Incorrect Cam Timing . Possibly The Wrong Pistons.
