What diesel engines for wrangler Jeep

What diesel motor do you thank that Chrysler will put into the Jeep Wrangler ?Or what diesel motor do you thank they should put into the wrangler !

The VM Motori from the Liberty CRD was the best bet but plans for that fell through a while ago.

96 Chevy K3500 6.5 diesel with 230k miles
4" lift 4" exhaust and PMD heatsink

And a DT466 going into a 2.5 ton 6x6 army truck

I saw an article in a mag swapping a VM and 545 into Cherokees and Wranglers. A 4BT would be great power and reliability if weight is no issue since they weigh 700+ pounds.

I saw in a Diesel Power mag where someone had done just that..... Put a Cummins 4bt with i think it was a Turbo 400 tranny behind it and loved it. Had HIGH mpg numbers with it too. It was pretty sweet.

There is a forum that has tons of 4BT swaps. Jeeps are popular for that swap. SBC's mud buggy with a 4BT compound and NV4500 is in the September DP. Pretty mean!!

An Isuzu 4bd1T would be nice as well.

The 4BT would be the most cost-effective if one was to do a swap.

My money is on a Fiat diesel in every Chrysler, pickups included, and sooner rather than later.

Anyone see the 4 door wrangler they stuffed a 5.9 common rail into and put a nv4500 behind it?

Something that works for the application and is reliable.
Probably around 2.5L, 4-cylinders and incorporates no "cutting edge" technology....last thing I'd want to happen on the trail is for the engine to quit running because the computer decided it was time for its union-appointed lunch break.
FWIW, there used to a company in Colorado whose sole funciton was installing Peugeot XD's into Jeep CJ's.
That was back in the 80's. Don't know if they're still in business, though.
If I find the ariticle, I'll post the company's name, and/or link (if they're still around).
