I was thinking of posting a similar question....thanks bigpete.

Can a person use 2" hitches like this?
http://www.reese-hitches.com/WD/dt_wd_hitch_parts.html
Would you use the welded kind or the forged one-piece?
Not sure if you have to upgrade to the 2 1/2" Class V hitch?

Most local rules we run by are "have to hook from a factory style reece hitch, 2" or 2.5" reciever". No modified pulling hitches allowed, but are OK in MOD class. We use some similiar to the ones THEBAC posted(the one on the left with a big clevis). Or just use a solid tubing, drop hitch with at least a 3" inside hole twisted clevis. I used the twisted clevis set-up for couple of seasons and we only broke one due to the "hollow" thin wall tubing.

This is what a buddy and I are running on our trucks

I have about $85 invested in mine I got the 3in pintail hitch and channel that it bolts in, at local welding shop for about $65. The other $20 was for the grade 8 bolts and other metal. I used 2x2 solid stock to slide in the receiver and since I have a good heavy aftermarket bumper I put and extra brace off it to help it hold better. My friend is just running a factory bumper so we extended the hitch out a little more and just added some extra braces off the piece of 2x2 stock.

Most run what ponti is showing, cause you can adjsut the hitch height dpeending on the rules. You many need to upgrade to say a towbeast hitch if your making lots of power. Factory hitches dependin ont he truck may only be rated for 10-12k lbs.

1996 Gmc k2500 4x4 6.5 turbo diesel, with mods Blew the head gasket, put all new heads, valves, injecotrs gaskets etc on the truck only to get it together and find out it had no oil pressure, and sounded horrible (pry a spun bearing). SOLD

I Know where there is a bent hitch that I am pretty sure came from there is (it looks just like theirs any way, and I think that's where he told me he got it) any way I bet he'd sell it real cheep It only lasted 2 or 3 hooks with a wheel hopping powerstroke
