Making the Move

Just ordered a spartan tuner tonight. Didn't plan on going above the 210 tune but the more I keep thinking the 250 is looking sweeter. Know I gotta get an Air intake right? Did the search and didn't come up with much. Any ones better than the others and which ones to steer clear of ? I do a lot of towing with this truck also, Heavy toy hauler 5th wheel towing. Do u think I could still tow with the 250?

I recommend the AFE Stage II intakes. Any of the filters will work, but the Pro Guard 7 seems to be the best. The S&B intakes are also good, but the AFE is much easier to clean and install. That makes the price difference worth it in my opinion.

And yes, you can tow with the 250 tune. You just have to be very watchful of your temps.

As in temps, are u referring to egt's? Running stock now and seeing high 11's depending on grade for egt's. tranny temps are good and haven't been higher than 225 at times on engine temp as fan seems to kick on around 221 give or take a few. I just let off the pedal and let myself get to the top as I'm in no hurry.

Engine oil temps, engine coolant temps, tranny temps, and exhaust temps.

The temps I posted above, do you think they are high for just being stock? Pull a lot of hills around my neck of the woods.

Yea, I would prefer to not see the tranny temp over 220 degrees ever, but some say its ok to get higher than that for a short period of time. I personally have never seen above 185-190 with mine, even before the Suncoast and deep pan. I also don't tow, just am really hard on my truck. If your under 230 with ECT and EOT, you are typically fine as long as those temps are sustained for a long period of time. You also want to make sure that ECT and EOT stay pretty close to each other. If EOT's starting getting way above ECT, there could be a problem with your oil cooler. If ECT's go up rapidly, it could be head gaskets, your EGR cooler could be flash boiling, your thermostat could be bad, or you could be leaking coolant from somewhere (like the radiator or radiator hose).

tranny temps never went over 180. My fault, wording was not stated right. ECT's around 221 or 225.
