trans temp question

well this past weekend I took a 3 hour trip with the 34" 5th wheel , and noticed that my trans temp was very high. I ran it with the spartan 250 at 60-65 the whole way no traffic noticed that trans temp sometimes got up around 230 degrees is this normal? i was not hard on the truck at all thanks for any input

230 degrees is hot. A lot hotter than I like to see. I would change the fluid before you tow heavy again. Next time you tow that load, tune down to the 210 tune or the 210 Tow Performance.

Are you using tow haul? It makes a big differance.

I was going to ask something similiar to that for you all with spartans.. I see that they have street tunes and tow tunes, so is your tow/haul mode on the gear selector still there? or disabled?

We still recommend that you use tow/haul while towing. It is not disabled on any tunes.

thats what i was thinking it wouldnt stay like that for long ! but then i got nervous so i checked trans fluid when i got to destination and it looked great im trying to think if i was pulling up a steep grade or not when i realized the temp but thats when i clicked the tow/haul button i didnt use it for majority of the trip ! i hope the trans is ok cause now driving it feels like it shifts extremely hard

Mine usually runs around 160-165 F range while pulling my 12k fifth wheel. Doesn't matter if I'm doing 60 or 80 mph....cold day....or hot day.
I use the 210 tow performance tune with the tow/haul on.
If your in stop and go trafic it will creep up another 10 degrees or so.

Come to think of it the temp is the same(160-165) whether I'm towing or just going down the road with my 275 tune not towing or hauling anything....winter and summer.
