Is it worth Upgrading from the Spartan 250 to the 275???

I just talked to a fellow [I]Spartan[I] owner who really likes the 275. He's been running it on his 2010 CrewCab 4x4 with the 3.55 for about 4 months now and says that it makes better power (duh), smokes less, shifts better, has lower exhaust temperatures and has helped his fuel mileage on the highway by 1 to 2 mpg over the 250, running empty (19 to 20 mpg @ 75 mph) and towing a rather large enclosed trailer (14 mpg @ 70 mph).

I have the exact same truck, typically run 70 to 75 on the highway and tow a 26 ft. 5th wheel on occasion.

Just thought I'd get input from other Forum members who have gone from the 250 to the 275 before spending more money on tunes.

Have ya'll had similar results/experiences?

Thanks in advance for your response!

The big helper with the 275 tune is the early lock up.....and the fact that it stays locked, unlike the the 250 tune.

So at what speed does the torque converter lock-up with the 275?

Also, when does it disengage?

The converter will lock at 45-50 mph normal driving depending on throttle position. Lighter throttle will give you lock up closer to 45 mph. More throttle will give you lock up closer to 50 mph. It won't unlock above that. It disengages when you slow down below 45 mph.

So at what speed does the 250 typically lock-up and under what conditions will it disengage, other than slowing down?

The 250 will lock around 50 mph, no sooner, at light throttle. It will lock much later if you are in the throttle good. It can disengage at any speed below about 72 mph.

When comparing the 250 to the 275 in non-racing applications:

Which tune smokes the least?

Which tune shifts the best?

Which tune gets the best mpg?

Which tune runs the coolest exhaust temperatures?

Sounds like the 275 wins in every category. Almost like they handicap the base tunes to make you want to purchase the more costly ones...
