Thefit problem with mounting location?

Has anyone had an issue when your tuner is mounted above the vent on the drivers side, or on the A-pillar for that matter, of being broke into and getting your tuner swiped? Since it is in plain view I'm wondering if the low lifes might think it is a GPS unit and rip it off for a quick buck?

my dashdaq is mounted above my rear view mirror and my gps is in the top left corner of the window. 8" tint strip on the top of the windshield and 15% tint on the door windows. You can't see mine in direct sunlight. I would be afraid to park my truck anywhere with the a pillar mounts. I can't stomach the fact that when the idiot that robs it, figures out its not a gps, He will just trash it...

That is what I was thinking too. Thanks for verifying I'm not the only one thinking this.

It is farily simple to break into these trucks through the door handle. If you park it anywhere and the robbers have the tim ethey will steal anything in the truck. Had both my GPS and tuner stole from in front of a restaurant. I suspect they were in and outof the truck in less than a minute. I have changed the lock on the door and remove all visible material from the truck if they want it they can get it. I will not risk losing another tuner in this manner or a GPS. Take caution with your belongings.

How did you mount the DD above your rear view mirror? I like that idea better than the other mounting options I have seen.

There's a bunch of people that have had their DD stolen with it in view from a window. Most had other stuff stolen too, but if the DD is in view, IMO, you're asking for it.

As for mounting options, there are threads on many different mounting options. I've got mine mounted where most of y'all have a 4x4 switch to the left of the AC. A quick search will show you a few more, but here are some:

Factory mount and wire. The mount holds it in place and it rests on the top of the mirror. I might have taken the mount apart and put it back together a little different. Don't quite remember now. It did take some time to get it in just the right spot. Mount even stuck good to the tint.

Well done, looks great! When you say factory mount which factory are you referring to? Also, how easy is it to remove from there if you want to hide it if you are parked in some seedy area?

Its just the suction cup mount that came with it. All you have to do is pull it out of the clip and un clip the wire. It takes a few minutes to get it back in, but I'm fairly anal when it comes to stuff like that. I like it on just the right angle to the seat.

Like I said before, I never remove the dashdaq or my gps. Even if you put your face up to the door window and look for them, you really can't see them. Unless you leave them on... I like it above the mirror. I drive big trucks for a living, so I am use to constantly watching the mirrors. That leaves the display constantly in sight.
