What tune are you Towing with?

I've been using the Spartan 250 to tow my small 5th wheel (24 ft. - 7,000 pounds) without any issues (No excessively high EGTs). The Spartan 210 "tow tune" doesn't perform as well, with more down-shifting, an insignificant decrease in EGTs and less MPGs.

I sent an inquiry to KEM as to what they recommended as their highest "safe" tow tune and they recommended not going over the 210.

Should I be using the 210 "tow tune" or is using the 250 "safe"?

How "high" can I go and not damage my truck: 275, 300, 310, etc.?

Watch you egt

I tow a high front profile 40ft 5th with the 210hp without issue including Northern Michigan where I can hold 70 mph on cruise without issue.

210 tow for sure. Has all of the safeties built in just for towing.

I towed for the first time since tuning back in January a few weeks ago. I tried the 275 and my temps stayed well within the safe areas. I towed 8,000 lbs. 33' Travel trailer, a 1/2 cord of wood, 5 people, two dogs. SO about 17K GCW. It was a 250 mile round trip and my temps were good the whole time, got 12.2 MPG hand calculated. I am probably going to go with the 250 tune next time, unless I find more people who have towed with the 275 for a while with no problems.

I did the 250 tow once and loved it. Keep an on my vitals and all was good. I had to chuckle once when one of those purdy foreign cars thought I didn't have the muscle to keep him from moving over in front of me. Just once though.

I have used the 275 to tow my 37 ft 5th wheel toy hauler alot, like 5000 miles or so. It weighs about 12k. The only problem with the 275 is if u have the cruise set and go into a hill, when it downshifts the boost can get scary high if the hill is steep....i think 57psi is the max the gauge will read or something close to that, i was scared i would blow a boot off, so i usaully use the tow tune now, the boost doesnt go as high.....that's with the old tunes, havent loaded the new ones from earlier this month yet(April 2011)!

But other than that the old 275 worked good, apart from a bit of bucking/surging onces in awhile, even with the cruise on.

Mileage is way better with the 275 though.
